28/12/2003: |
[FBIS Translated Text] In his Christmas message, Cape Verde Prime Minister appealed to the people living abroad to help in the country's development. Jose Maria Neves believes that this year, nearing an end, was good for the country and announced that the government is prepared to spend 25 million dollars on infrastructure during 2004.
[Begin recording] [RTP reporter Hulda Moreira] Cape Verde's Prime Minister especially directed his Christmas message to the people of Cape Verde living abroad. Jose Maria Neves appealed to the people of Cape Verde for economic sustainability.
[Neves] Cape Verde is a country of islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a nation of diasporas and we need to be able to mobilize all its abilities and national competencies resident or in the communities abroad to construct Cape Verde's future. During this festive season, I would especially like to address the thousands of Cape Verdean people spread across the world who, with their blood sweat and tears have worked to build a new Cape Verde.
[Moreira] Neves believes 2003 was a good one year where victory was attained in all sectors. Aviation, Cape Verde's new diocese and several other successful cultural ventures were discussed by Jose Maria Neves. The Head of Government announced that during 2004, infrastructure to the value of 25 million dollars would be developed.
[Neves] I hope that 2004 will also be a good year where Cape Verde's intense sun and bright stars of our flag will continue to shine so that Cape Verde can grow and all the people of Cape Verde will be able to grow and shine with Cape Verde. Let us start on new work.
[Moreira] In his Christmas message, Neves also appealed to the Cape Verdeans to exercise their civil duty in the local elections set for 21 March 2004. [end recording]
